Kurt and Johanna with their children Johann and Eva

The Rottensteiner family, at one with nature.

Kurt Rottensteiner

In his book 'South Tirol's Wine Growers', Martin Klichmann refers to me and my wife Johanna as being 'rooted in the earth'. We find it an accurate description of the way we are and an essential characteristic for a wine producer. Impatience and hectic have no place on a vineyard. The wines from Brunnenhof speak for themselves but also for me and my family, only by us all working together has the Brunnenhof become what it is today - the home of high quality wines, a home for friends from near and far and the home of a wine-grower and his family.

Maintaining traditions is an important part of this home. Pinot Noir vines, supposedly introduced by Ludwig von Barth zu Barthenau, have been growing in Mazzon for more than 100 years, and for the same length of time the Rottensteiner family has been pressing the Blauburgunder grape, first in Bozen and since 1999 in Mazzon. The possibilities offered by the Pinot Noir grape never cease to fascinate me and, despite having worked in wine-growing since childhood, the experience I have gained from working with this delicate grape has grown steadily, as has my fascination and passion for my profession.
